What is Decreasing fertility in menopause?

A reduced ability to conceive a child. This process happens gradually with age. Eventually, once menopause is complete (after 12 consecutive months without a period), natural fertility ends.

Why does Decreasing fertility happen in menopause?

As hormone levels fall, ovulation becomes less frequent and less predictable, reducing the chances of conception. With age, the quantity and quality of eggs also decreases reducing fertility further.

If you're over 35 and trying to conceive, use ovulation predictor kits or fertility tracking apps. Speak to your GP or a fertility specialist after 6 months of trying - some fertility treatments may be available. If you're not trying to conceive continue to use contraception for one year after your final period.
